What do governments really gain by denying their citizens who fought to save lives in Syria passports? What safety does the constant stream of threats of imprisonment upon return bring the citizens of western countries? Are they actually creating more enemies than they could ever fight by their harsh measures? The authorities in Denmark are taking a different route than most European countries in dealing with returning fighters and their results may surprise you. There have been no attacks in Denmark since the conflict in Syria began nor any credible terrorist threats for that matter, in spite of the fact that dozens of their citizens have fought and returned home since that time.
